VGMA DEBATE OVER AS ‘YENTIE OBIAA’ MATURES OVER MODERN HIGHLIFE SONGS
The Accra International Conference Center (AICC) last Saturday was fired up as patrons applauded to the announcement of Charles Kwodwo Fosu a.k.a Daddy Lumba a.k.a DL’s Yentie Obiaa as the highlife song of the year at the 16th Vodafone Ghana music award (VGMA’s).
The song which gained much airplay from its release in 2014 till date is loved and danced to anytime and anywhere it is played with president john Dramani Mahama along with some prominent and influential people in the country also falling in love with it.
However several debates were raised by industry persons with regards to this particular category thus the highlife song of the year based on the criteria the academy was using. Yet it all came to an end on the night yentie obiaa was announced while fans of dl are happy about his genuine win others think the win was influenced by the political involvement of the song.
Award winners included Stonebwoy, Edem, Sarkodie, Wiyaala, EL, No Tribe and many others.
The event was attended by a huge number of celebrities in and outside Ghana, stakeholders, ordinary Ghanaians and Blaqboi and Amanda Jessih all of GH one TV hosting the red carpet and the ever curvy Joselyn Dumah and Nathaniel Attoh as mcees along with DJ black and funny face both co-mcing.
Performances were witnessed from wiyaala neola who opened the show, royal Chris of Vodafone icons fame, Sonnie Badu, Dark Suburb, Yemi Alade, Tic Tac, Tinny, Daddy Lumda, Samini, Stonebwoy and Patoranking.
