The Ministry of Private Sector Development and PPP with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ghana Investment Promotion center launched the maiden edition of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Financing Fair 2016 at the auditorium of the Ministry of Communication, Department of Information yesterday 19th January 2016.

According to Ghana’s economy as explained at the launch, SMEs are a major pillar constituting over 90% of businesses registered in the country. The ministry of trade and industry estimates that SMEs comprises over 160, 000 registered limited liability companies and over 350, 000 registered sole enterprises.

Again the SMEs according to the ministry are key drivers of sustainable economic growth, and the principal source of new employment. They have the highest- potential growth and employment creation and product diversification.

The SME Financing Fair according to the Minister for Private Sector Development and PPP, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo is been introduced because of the high cost of financing and inadequate access to funds that bottlenecks of the small medium enterprises are facing in the country and was launched on the theme “SME financing in Ghana- enhancing access and reducing costs”.

The SME financing fair 2016 is aimed at helping the SMEs interact with all government financial institutions and private financial institutions as well in the aspect of finance.

Dignitaries present at the press launch was the Minister for Private Sector Development and PPP, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Mutala Mohammed, deputy Minister for Communication, Hon. Ofosu Kwakye and designates from the Ghana Investment Promotion center and members of the press.

The SME financing fair 2016 is schedule in two sections the first part is the pre- event which will engage stakeholders to seek their support and commitments towards the fair and will be held on the 2nd of February 2016 at the flagstaff house in Accra. Then the main event which is the SME financing fair and exhibition will come off on the 16th– 17th of March 2016 at the Accra international conference center.
