GHAMRO APPRECIATES AG
The Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) have officially had their first meeting with the Attorney General of Ghana, Mrs. Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong and has shown appreciation to her for helping the win of a long time battle of 25 years of mismanagement of right owners money and entrusting believe in the board today in Accra.
Mrs. Marietta Brew was present at the inauguration of the new GHAMRO board which was held at the Alisa hotel in Accra after the board’s elections in February. during the meeting, she commented that it is her duty to fix problems in the art industry and shared that the department had the industry at heart and will do its best to help build it.
She assured the board that the copyright act will be set up by the government and will work hard to implement that law is fully implemented.
She congratulated the board and spoke on her expectations from the new board saying she expects the board which was born by the members of the industry to work well and make the members proud. She however offered some advice to the board saying the board should work to improve and advance their work for the music industry ensuring them to build the organization to meet the demanding market internationally and pledged to help them.
The chairman of the board shared their work experience on their first 1 month and 2 weeks in GHAMRO saying there have achieved a lot so far indicating that some organizers of musical events visit them and consult them before organizing their event with the likes of MTN Ghana been his example and a host of others.
He touched on the purpose of the visit to the attorney general department saying the board came to show appreciation and show gratitude for the help the department offered during the battle for a new board to manage the affairs of right owners.
The board then used the opportunity to appeal to the AG with some other challenges they were facing. The AG then showed concerns of helping the board in administering effectively by setting the month of May 2015 as the time she will meet the board and schedule a well planned structure of preference to settle all problems.
The meeting had the presence of the chairman of the board Kojo Antwi, the 2 vice chairmen, James Kwaku Tuffour and Ahmed Banda (Bandex). Also Zapp Mallet, Mary Ghansah, Bessa Simons Henry, Augustina Addison, George Asafo-Adjei, Rev. Talented Arthur, Benjamin Mensah (Big Ben), Seth Kwaku Amponsah (Easyway), Francis Yaw Manu (Teacher Redeemer) and Rev. Francis Boahene all represented as board members. Nana Kwame Ampadu and Rex Omar both special advisers to the board, Kwaku Adusei the counsel of GHAMRO and the president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Tuffour a.k.a Obour were all present.
The outgoing interim board members were also present including Kow Sesah Aquaye, Captain Abraham Adjetey and Dorothy Habadah. The board however showed their appreciation to the Attorney General with a plague honor of which Mrs. Marietta Brew Opong was optimistic about.
